ICAR-AICE JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) Exam Details with Subject wise Syllabus for Veterinary and Animal Sciences
NTA has been conducting this examination since 2019. ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) – All India Competitive Examination for Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship for Doctoral admissions. This examination is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode with multiple-choice questions (MCQ).
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the apex body responsible for conducts the All India Competitive Examination (AICE) every year to award Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), Senior Research Fellowships (SRF), and to facilitate admissions into Ph.D. programs at State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), Central Agricultural Universities (CAUs), Central Universities with Agriculture Faculty, and ICAR Deemed Universities across India.
The ICAR AICE is one of the most prestigious examinations for agricultural research aspirants. Qualifying this exam opens doors to Doctoral research opportunities.
ICAR JRF/SRF Ph.D. Eligibility Requirements
- Educational Qualification: For the ICAR AICE JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) veterinary and animal sciences, you must hold a Master’s degree (M.V.Sc.) in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (or 6.50/10 OGPA) for General/OBC/EWS candidates and 50% (5.50/10 OGPA) for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
- Age Limit: The minimum age limit is 20 years, with no upper age restriction.
- Accreditation Mandate: It is mandatory that the institution you graduated/post-graduated from holds ICAR accreditation.
ICAR JRF/SRF Ph.D. Exam Pattern
Understanding the exam pattern is essential before beginning your ICAR JRF preparation. Here is a quick overview:
- Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Number of Questions: 120 questions
- Total Marks: 480 marks
- Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
- Marking: +4 marks for each correct answer
- Negative Marking: -1 mark for each wrong answer
- No Penalty: Un-attempted questions carry zero marks
- Medium: English only
The question paper is divided into three (3) parts:
If candidate's Specialized master's degree subject is from Veterinary Science group then Section B questions are from Veterinary Science subjects related.
Similarly, those master's degree subject is from Animal Science or Animal Biotechnology group then Section B questions are from that respective category related as per following list.

- Stipend (Years 1 & 2 - JRF): ₹31,000 per month
- Stipend (Year 3 - SRF): ₹35,000 per month
- Contingency Grant: ₹10,000 per year for books, travel, and chemicals
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): Provided as per Central Government norms
- In-Service Candidates: Limited to ₹3,000 per month plus contingency
