The National Eligibility Test (NET) for veterinary and animal sciences is conducted by the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) under the ICAR. It is a mandatory requirement for qualifying as a Lecturer or Assistant Professor in State Agricultural Universities and other ICAR institutions.

If candidate qualifying in exam, it gives him/her access to apply for the vacancies released by different Agricultural & Veterinary universities.


ICAR-ASRB NET Eligibility Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess an M.V.Sc. degree or an equivalent postgraduate degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university.
  • Minimum Marks/OGPA: No minimum percentage of marks or OGPA is prescribed by ASRB for appearing in the NET examination.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 21 years old. There is no upper age limit and there are no limits on the number of attempts.
  • Nationality: The candidate must fulfill the nationality requirements specified in the official ASRB notification.
  • Relevant Discipline: Candidates should apply in the discipline corresponding to their M.V.Sc. specialization.

ICAR-ASRB NET Exam Pattern

Understanding the exam pattern is essential before beginning your preparation. Here is a quick overview:

  • Mode of Exam: Computer Based  Test (CBT)
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Number of Questions: 150 Questions
  • Total Marks: 150 Marks
  • Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Marking: +1 marks for each correct answer
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each wrong answer
  • No Penalty: Un-attempted questions carry zero marks
  • Medium: English & Hindi

ICAR ASRB NET Minimum Qualifying Marks
To qualify the ICAR ASRB NET examination, candidates must secure the following minimum qualifying marks:
  • UR (General): 75 marks (50%)
  • OBC (NCL)/ EWS: 67.5 marks (45%)
  • SC / ST / PwBD: 60 marks (40%)
Note: Securing the minimum qualifying marks makes a candidate eligible to qualify the examination. However, the ASRB reserves the right to revise the qualifying marks, if required, as mentioned in the official notification.

ICAR-ASRB NET Application Fee
The application fee for the ICAR ASRB NET examination varies according to the candidate's category. The category-wise application fee is given below:
  • General (UR): ₹1,000
  • OBC (NCL)/ EWS: ₹500
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women/Transgender: ₹250
Note: The application fee must be paid online through the prescribed payment gateway during the online application process. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable. The application fee is subject to change in future notifications; therefore, candidates should always refer to the latest official ASRB notification before applying.

      What Happens After Qualifying the ICAR-ASRB NET?

      Qualifying the ICAR ASRB National Eligibility Test (NET) is an important milestone for candidates aspiring to become Assistant Professors/Lecturers in Agricultural and Veterinary Universities. However, it is important to understand that qualifying the ASRB NET does not result in direct recruitment or automatic appointment to any university.

      The ASRB NET serves as an eligibility qualification, certifying that a candidate is eligible to apply for faculty positions in Agricultural Universities, Veterinary Universities, and other eligible institutions, subject to the recruitment rules of the respective university.

      Recruitment Process After Qualifying ASRB NET

      1. Complete the required postgraduate degree (M.V.Sc./Master's degree in the relevant discipline).

      2. Qualify the ICAR ASRB NET in the corresponding subject.

      3. Keep track of recruitment notifications issued by State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), Central Agricultural Universities (CAUs), Deemed Universities, and other ICAR-recognized institutions.

      4. Apply separately for each advertised Assistant Professor/Lecturer vacancy.

      5. The recruiting university conducts its own selection process, which may include application screening, interview, seminar, teaching demonstration, document verification, and other procedures as prescribed in its recruitment rules.

      6. Final appointment is made by the recruiting university based on merit and fulfillment of all eligibility criteria.

      Important Note

      ASRB NET is an eligibility examination, not a recruitment examination. Qualifying the examination enables candidates to apply for eligible faculty positions, but the final selection depends on the recruitment process conducted by the respective university or institution.
